The Fanciest, Nanciest 5th party ever!!

This was one fun birthday party!!
India loves Fancy Nancy and so her party was themed around this wonderful character.

We have a tradition in our family that the kids can choose what birthday cake they would like.  This is a really fun time as books are consulted, websites are perused and everyone pitches in with their opinions on what the person should choose.  India had seen a photo about 6 months previously and she was like a dog with a bone and would not let that image go (an amazing image of a tiered fancy smancey cake).
The tiered cake that I managed to make for her
Cake making in Hong Kong is a bit of a challenge in that sourcing ingredients can take awhile, but what you can get can be awesome (if you have time to head out to Sham Shui Po :)
India wanted something super fancy, just like adults would have
After consulting numerous Pinterest sites I was completely overwhelmed and feeling like a deflated balloon convinced that my creative skills could never match those of the Pinterested mothers I had been following.....there were a couple of 6am moments where I could be found making feverish lists, my planning equal to holding a wedding!  But finally I made this list of crafts for the little Fancy Ladies to make when they came over:

Fancy Glasses

Fancy Pens
Fancy Rings
 Fancy Bracelets
Fancy Handbags

So many crafts, so little time!!!!  Thank goodness for the help from Elle and Melissa!!  We were all running around like headless chooks....glueing here, stitching there, helping everywhere.

Once the girls had finished it was on to Fancying up themselves....India has her own makeup box which she loves using.  She had requested that make up and hair spray could both be used at her birthday.

See how good she is at putting the stuff on!!
Elle being a great hairdresser

Even the boys wanted some hairspray action

(Honestly I sometimes wonder if this child is mine!!  I me
an I have never owned a bottle of hairspray - except once for an art project - and my make up is so sad that she laughs when she sees the pitiful amount of it - a 5 year old feels sorry for me for the small amount of make up I have compared to her own large collection!!!!  Can you believe it!!!)

To top it  all off we had to have fancy food - parfait glasses with numerous toppings, just like the Kings Head in her books.....so glamorous!!

We followed the storyline of one of the books - where Fancy Nancy organises a fashion
show for all the girls that come to her sisters birthday party...we had feather boas, high heeled shoes, their handbags, their glasses and bracelets and rings....the only funny thing was that most of the girls didn't want to do the fashion show - ha ha - but India and Noah did and they swanked
up and down the catwalk for all to see.

It was such a fun party....heaps of work but so much fun to see little girls being lovely little ladies.

Scoffing the cake
The lovely India and her sort of Fancy Mum (I tried hard to look like Fancy Nancys Mum)
